What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup, also called micro pigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is the implantation of colored pigments into the skin for aesthetic purposes to enhance, contour, and outline facial features.

Is permanent makeup similar to a tattoo?

Accepted Answer

It has some of the same qualities; however, it is very different. The pigment is placed into the skin at a depth of about 1/3 the depth of traditional tattoos. What that means is permanent makeup is implanted close to the surface of the skin, just below the epidermis, into the upper dermis area, while traditional tattoos are implanted deeper into the dermal layer of the skin. Permanent makeup is designed to gradually fade over time as our skin sheds its outermost layers every month.

Is permanent makeup a safe procedure?

Yes, the procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges. At the beginning of the treatment, your technician will show you a single-use sterile pre-packed needle/microblades in its packaging before opening. Immediately after the needle is used on a client, it is discarded in a sharps container to be disposed of correctly.

How long does it last?

Permanent makeup can last 2-3 years, depending on the client's skin type and how well they take care of it. Gradual fading is expected on all procedures over time. The darker the color, the longer it will stay unchanged in your skin. Natural, delicate colors are oftentimes more vulnerable to the effects of sun, swimming, and breakdown by the body's natural response-resulting in more frequent touch-ups. The longevity varies among clients based on their personal care routine and sun exposure. Proper UVA/UVB protection will prevent color from fading as quickly in sunny climates. Aggressive skin treatments such as laser, chemical peel, and dermabrasion can affect the life span of your permanent makeup.

How do you choose which brow technique is best?

We will evaluate your skin type, your brows, and your end goal to decide what is best for you in the long run. We like to pick the right procedure to age beautifully with you!

If I had prior permanent makeup done by another studio, can you work over it?

Accepted Answer

If you have work that was not done by us, we recommend booking a  “Correction Brows” service or booking a consultation to get the best advice.

Is it painful?

Accepted Answer

A topical anesthetic is used as needed to help numb the areas to be treated. This will alleviate any minor discomfort that may be felt during the procedure. Every client has a different level of pain tolerance. We use topical numbing to ease discomfort as well as a secondary numbing agent to use mid procedure.

Is the touch up necessary?

In short, YES! The touch up is absolutely necessary. Think of this as a two step process. If you want to have the best results possible, the touch up is necessary. We do not know how the skin will react to the initial procedure or heal. All permanent makeup (excluding lips) will fade about 40% in the healing process. Some clients have great retention while others do not.

How long should I wait before I can have permanent makeup applied after chemical peels or laser treatments?

In order to get optimal results, we recommend waiting 2 months post-chemical peel or laser treatment.

Can I have permanent makeup done while using Isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Accutane)?

Accepted Answer

You must be off of Accutane for 1 year before you can receive a permanent makeup procedure. NO EXCEPTIONS! These types of medications will place you at risk for hypersensitivity, scarring and hyperpigmentation.

Can I have Botox done before my procedure?

Absolutely however there must be a 2 week waiting period from your Botox to your permanent makeup procedure

Can I have Restylane or Juvederm injected before/after my procedure?

Absolutely! Just wait 1 month before/after your procedure.

Are there any restrictions to having these procedures?

Accepted Answer

Yes, there re some medical issues that may prevent us from working on you
If you are a diabetic, you must be in a controlled state, and your healing time may take longer
Type I- insulin dependent diabetes will need medical clearance
If you have ever had shingles in the brow or near eye area, permanent makeup cannot be performed as the procedure can cause a flare up
If you have a history of cold sores, then you must be prescribed medication before, during and after any lip procedure
If you are on blood thinner or fish oil, you must be off for 1 week prior
If you are on Retin A, retinols, trentinoin, you must be off of these 30 days prior and 30 days after procedure
If you are on accutane, you must be off for 1 year
If you have had cosmetic surgery on your face, you must be healed at least 3 months
If you have cancer, you must be 6 months past your chemotherapy
Botox should be performed 2 weeks after or 2 weeks before brow procedure
Filler should be performed 1 month before or 1 month after procedure
No chemical peels 60 days before and 60 days after
You cannot have a tan on your face at the time of your appointment. Pigment will heal darker on tan skin and may be more sensitive and bleed more.

Is it safe if I am pregnant or breast feeding?

Permanent Cosmetics are not safe for women who are pregnant or nursing. Pregnancy can cause undesirable results due to hormonal changes in the body.

What is the difference between nano brows and microblading?

Accepted Answer

Nano brows is an eyebrow tattoo technique that creates hair-like strokes to mimic a soft, feather-like appearance. This method is done with a machine, unlike microblading. Microblading is a manual method using a hand tool and a blade made up of tiny needles, which mimics the appearance of actual brow hairs.
